Mini Splits are typically ductless air conditioning systems that use variable speed motors and compressors to deliver a very efficient system. Like traditional split systems that you are familiar with, mini splits have an outdoor compressor component and and indoor air handler component.
Mini splits are available as heat pumps that can both heat and cool a space. There are also cooling only models for spaces like server rooms that only require cooling. The indoor units come in a variety of configurations, including wall mounted units, ceiling cassettes, floor mounted, and even ducted models.
One of the big advantages of the mini split technology is the concept that there is no (or little) ductwork. In a traditional split system, your home loses up to 35% of the cooling and heating thru the ductwork. With mini split systems there is no heat loss or heat gain as a result of the ductwork, because in most cases there is no ductwork.
Another advantage of mini splits is their use of completely variable speed fan motors and compressors. Mini splits use DC motors and compressors whose operating frequency can be varied to change the speed of the motor or compressor. The fan motors start up gently, and ramp up to the required RPM range needed by the system. The system automatically ramps the fan motor speed down as the system operates. The same is true for the compressors. The indoor and outdoor equipment communicates with each other to determine the optimal motor and compressor speeds.
Mini splits are the perfect solution for room additions like great rooms, bonus rooms, sunrooms, garage conversions, and basement remodels.
Cherokee HVAC recommends Mitsubishi mini splits, and we are a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer. We have attended Mitsubishi’s factory training on service and installation. Cherokee HVAC has also invested in the specialized tools that are required to install a mini split correctly.
Mitsubishi will extend your warranty to 12 years on the compressor and parts if the system is installed by a Diamond Dealer like Cherokee HVAC. That is because Mitsubishi knows that the system is going to be installed correctly.
Below are just some of the advantages of mini split systems:
The power companies realize that mini splits are more energy efficient than split systems, and often offer rebates. Currently Georgia Power customers can receive up to a $550 rebate for installing a mini split system.
